Our Partner Organizations
Greenleaf Cares supports four trusted organizations leading the fight against human trafficking:
Set Free works with in-country partners to rescue children, provide clean water, host medical clinics, and plant churches to make disciples of Christ—believing in a world where all are set free.
Restavek Freedom is dedicated to ending child slavery in Haiti. "Restavek" is a Haitian term referring to an exploited child abused for labor.
Venture addresses human trafficking, refugee crisis, extreme poverty, and religious and gender-based persecution. Through local leaders, Venture provides rescue and safety, health and hygiene, education, agribusiness, and food security.
SWITCH is a grassroots organization leading a movement to end human sex trafficking and sexual exploitation in the Upstate of South Carolina, founded in 2012.
Why Human Trafficking?
The Story That Started It All
In 2011, Greenleaf President Bob Caldwell, Jr. and his wife Sarah traveled to Haiti on a mission trip that would change everything. There, they met three children who shared their stories about life in restavek—a Creole word meaning "to stay with." But for these children, that definition was incomplete. It was actually modern day child slavery.
One of them, a 17-year-old boy named Robert, began to weep as he told his story. Unable to continue, Bob embraced him. In that moment, Robert whispered four simple words that would inspire something truly meaningful:
"Make my story matter."
Those words planted the seeds of Greenleaf Cares. Bob and Sarah returned home knowing they had to do something. At Greenleaf, we believe that home should be a place of safety and comfort for everyone—and that's why we're committed to helping ensure more people can experience the security and peace that everyone deserves.
